Both Mark and his father, Everett were on hand to
greet everyone and share their enthusiasm for the
True North.
A beautiful Saturday morning began with breakfast at Mark's, after which Bob Peck of Hinckley Marine Insurance gave a brief talk on important things to consider when shopping for yacht insurance. Mark then got his tractor out and drove a Yanmar 440 hp engine right under the tent! Steve McGovern of Mack Boring (& owner of True North Hull #35) spoke for a little over an hour about the engine, its maintenance and its components. The owners LOVED it, as they shared ideas and experiences past and present. This was a big hit with everyone!
Paul Gardner then explained about our “Navigator’s Race and Poker Hand.” Leaving Mark's in 5 minute intervals, the boats got their first playing card and clue - a poetic verse with landmark clues to guide them to their first mark. There they got their second card & clue from Gregg and Mark and headed on to their next mark where another boat had their 3rd card & clue. The 4th clue came from Hank, Tom Almeida (our GM) and Kim Hawkins, sitting on one of our True Norths in Newport Harbor handing cards & clues out with a fishing pole - GREAT FUN!! The forth leg was a timed leg with waypoints and our final destination, The Herreshof Museum. The winners of the race were Tom & Jean Jung and Ron & Karen Jordan, 2nd place went to Carol and Rone Baldwin and 3rd to Dr. Richard and Carole Falk. Tom Jung also won the poker hand!
We then had a wonderful lobster dinner on the dock with a 18th century Dutch Tall Ship and all the 38's docked to behind us. Our engineering staff spoke about our new models, the 33 and the 46, they and ended their talk with a slide show. Everett talked about the museum and how it tied into Pearson’s history. One owner was quoted as saying "meeting Everett was like meeting Henry Ford".
All boats returned to Mark’s home on Sunday for breakfast under the tent, and soon everyone was on their way. We have had many calls since the rendezvous from people who saw us in the area that weekend wanting to know more!
If you own a True North and couldn’t make it this year, please plan for next year. And, as we sell more boats in other areas of the country, we’ll be planning additional rendezvous.
