Motor Yachts, Power Boats, and Cruiser Yachts

In early fall of 2001 Pearson Yachts introduced its all new True North Series by launching the True North 38 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. This fun, fast, family cruiser yacht was inspired by the efficient, seaworthy New England lobster boats known for their no-nonsense practicality and dependable performance. Two years later, the popularity of the True North 38 lead to the successful introduction of the True North 33. Today there are nearly 130 True North motor yachts either on the water or under construction and our next model is coming soon- the True North 47.

New for 2008

The True North transom for 2008 expands upon our unique and exciting concept in power boating. Smart, versatile and easy to maintain, our huge cockpit design now features a new comfortable seating arrangement. After a day of water sport activities, outdoor dining and harbor cruises in the evening are even more fun. The moveable port and starboard forward seats move aft to create a U shape complete with a stowable dining table. For even more fun in the sun we have added a Flybridge option with seating for six. This option is unique to our True North 38 power yacht and available only on our 2008 model. Just imagine the view while cruising down the waterway!

This new layout is available on our 2008 True North 38, our 2008 True North 34 Sport, and the all new True North 47.

Fundamental Design Goals

The True North designs represent a refreshing reassessment of how recreational motor yachts are realistically used. Having built more than 15,000 power and sailing vessels over 40 years, True North remains focused on value, functionality and simplicity.

Taking advantage of today's advanced technology is important as long as it results in improved performance and a more enjoyable boating experience. All too often yacht builders have added feature after feature, gadget after gadget, and pound after pound to end up with fuel hungry, expensive and problem-ridden motor yachts that soon take all the fun out of boating.

The True North series offers boats that are fun and enjoyable. Economical, efficient, good performance, seaworthiness, and being built-to-last are the key characteristics of boats bearing the True North name.

Unique Characteristics Of The True North Motor Yacht Series

The True North form truly follows function, and the hull design performs as beautifully as it looks. The benefits of a single engine, prop drive are no secret to commercial fishermen who regularly venture offshore in the most challenging conditions. A single engine installation is more economical and quieter than a twin installation, not to mention the savings in weight and engine room space.

A single shaft can also be better protected with a skeg/keel form, providing peace of mind in shallow waters or when running through areas of debris, crab or lobster pots. For easy maneuverability, each model features a powerful bow thruster as standard equipment.

Today’s modern diesel engines deliver a great amount of power for their weight and physical size, and the True North 38 and 34 are both capable of cruising in the low 20-knot range. The hull form incorporates a deep-V forward to contribute to a soft ride in rough seas, and its moderate deadrise aft allows for a quick and easy transition to getting up on plane. The plumb bow cuts through the water with authority, and the natural flair of the hull keeps spray to a minimum.

The True North Series features a unique, reverse transom design that incorporates a pair of wide opening doors for easy access to the water from the cockpit. A dinghy can be pulled into the cockpit and stored while underway, and then effortlessly launched. While anchored, the crew has an unobstructed view of the water.

Sometimes referred to as a base camp for water sports activities, the True North Series is designed to accommodate a family with all their water toys. The low-profile cabin top makes stowing and launching a pair of kayaks easy, and the large cockpit is ideal for entertaining, lounging and fishing. Both the 34, 38, and 47 feature up-galley layouts with adjacent dinette areas, providing all-around visibility. The 38 is available with either a hard-back aft bulkhead with door or as an open model and the 47 is fit out with retracting glass.

Keeping It Simple Keeps You On The Water

The True North was also designed and built to minimize costly maintenance. On our base models, all exterior surfaces are easy to clean and maintain. Only the finest stainless steel hardware is used, and a quick hosing and wipe-down after use will keep her looking shipshape for years to come.

The interior design of each True North model is an example of fine balance between comfort and practicality. While various levels of trim are available ranging from the“downeast yacht finish” found in our new TN38 Classic, to a “mop ‘n go” carefree approach, every model features top quality, foolproof systems and equipment. We have put a lot of thought into each and every system and piece of gear that comes standard.

The Main Differences Between The 34 And 38 Motor Yachts

Both models share the same overall design elements, high-tech construction techniques and practical approach to systems and equipment. The TN38 is simply bigger than the 34 and offers more spacious accommodations, a bigger saloon and galley area, and a larger cockpit.

Each model is capable of cruising speeds in the low 20-knot area. The TN34 has an estimated safe range of 300 nm at its cruising speed with a 10% fuel reserve, while the TN38 can go 375 nautical miles before refueling. Slowing to displacement speeds of approximately 8 knots will more than double their ranges.
